Intensive Driving Courses with LIDT help you pass your driving test faster with a tailored, all-inclusive course. Whether you are starting from scratch or need a short refresher, we match you with a DVSA-approved instructor and build your lesson timetable around your availability. If you already have a test date, we organise your lessons to lead up to it. If you do not yet have a test booked, we can provide in-person support to help you secure an early appointment once your lessons begin. DVSA's research shows that, on average, learners take around 45 hours of lessons with an instructor plus 22 hours of private practice to pass. This is the benchmark our ADIs work towards when planning your course and helping you progress to test standards.
Why choose LIDT
We build your lesson timetable around your availability and test date. If you do not yet have a test, we can provide in-person assistance to help you secure one as your training progresses. This keeps your training and test date aligned so you stay prepared and test-ready.
Your lessons are taught by DVSA Approved Driving Instructors (ADIs). Packages include lessons and test-day car hire, with courses tailored from 15 to 50 hours depending on your experience. You reserve your place with a deposit and pay the balance before training begins.
What's included
- Intensive driving lessons with a DVSA Approved Driving Instructor (ADI)
- In-person support and guidance in securing an early DVSA practical test appointment
- Test-day car hire and a 2 hour warm-up lesson before the test
- Flexible daily schedules. Typically 3 to 5 hours per day
How it works
- Choose your location and let us know whether you already have a DVSA test date. If you do, we will arrange lessons in the lead-up to it. If not, we will pair you with an instructor and provide support in securing an early appointment.
- View provisional dates. See potential start dates. Confirmation follows once your instructor is allocated.
- Pay deposit. Reserve your place. The balance is due before training begins.
- Instructor allocated. We introduce you to your instructor and begin planning your lessons. If you do not yet have a test date, we can provide in-person assistance to help you secure one as your training progresses.
- Start training. Lessons are planned around your test date for maximum readiness.
Important information
- Do not book time off work until your instructor has reached out to schedule your lessons.
- A valid theory test pass is required before beginning your course.
- One meeting point per course. No home pick-up. Lessons start from a location near your allocated instructor.
- Erith, Belvedere and Sidcup test centres: Lessons start and end in East London. A tunnel toll may apply. The candidate is responsible for any toll charges.

On test day
- You will have a minimum 2-hour warm-up lesson before your driving test.
- If the outcome is unsuccessful, the DVSA requires a 10-working-day waiting period before a new test can be taken. You will need to book a new test yourself via GOV.UK. Before doing so, speak to your instructor to agree a date that works around your continued lessons. If you are struggling to find a suitable date, we can provide in-person assistance to help you secure an earlier appointment.
