Important: 2026 DVSA rule change
From 12 May 2026, only the learner can book, change or cancel their own car driving test. LIDT is fully compliant. We help you find the right slot - you complete the booking yourself, or visit our office and we guide you through it in person.
In force from spring 2026
The 2026 DVSA Rule Changes
The rules for booking a car driving test changed from spring 2026. All three rules are now fully in force.
Swap Matching
No match, no feeLIDT maintains a database of thousands of learner drivers. When two candidates want each other's slot, we introduce them and they swap directly with DVSA.
Steps
- Register and tell us your current test details and preferred alternative
- We find a compatible match and introduce both candidates
- You both call DVSA on 0300 200 1122 — DVSA processes the swap
- Both candidates receive updated confirmation
Eligibility
- Both candidates must have at least 1 change remaining
- At least 10 full working days before the earliest test (Monday to Saturday count)
- Same test type — weekday (£62) or weekend and bank holiday (£75)
- From 9 June 2026: swap partner must be at same or one of your 3 nearest centres
- Both candidates must be available simultaneously for the DVSA call
★ The swap counts as one of your 2 permitted changes. Your DVSA fee is preserved.
★ DVSA phone line: Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. Call 0300 200 1122, option 1.
★ Platform fee on successful matches only. No match, no fee.

- Your test is booked, fully compliant with 2026 DVSA rules

★ This service is fully compliant with SI 2026 No. 326 and official DVSA guidance on assisted booking.
Emergency Instructor and Test Car
Register early for best resultsIf you have already booked a car driving test and your driving instructor is unavailable on that date, LIDT can help you find an available ADI and test car at short notice so you do not lose your test slot.
How it works
- Register your test details with LIDT - date, time, test centre and your location
- LIDT searches our network of 100+ ADIs across London and surrounding areas
- If an available instructor is found, we confirm the match and arrange the test car
- You attend your test in an LIDT instructor's car
★ LIDT cannot guarantee availability. Results depend on instructor availability in your area on your specific test date.
★ Register as early as possible to maximise your chances.
What We Book Directly
No restrictionsThe 2026 rule changes apply to car practical tests only. LIDT can still book all of the following directly on your behalf — no restrictions, no changes to these services.
★ These services are unaffected by the 2026 DVSA rule changes. LIDT books these tests directly on your behalf, exactly as before.

If you previously made a booking before the 12th of May 2026 through our website and were issued a DVSA reference number, your test appointment is held directly with DVSA. From 12 May 2026, you are responsible for managing your own appointment. Please follow the steps below.
Step 1
Check your test is still booked
Visit gov.uk/check-driving-test with your booking reference and driving licence number to confirm your appointment is in place.
Step 2
Update your contact details with DVSA
Log in at GOV.UK and make sure your email address, phone number and home address are up to date so DVSA can reach you directly.
Step 3
Think carefully before making any changes
You can now only change your test twice. Only reschedule if your circumstances have genuinely changed and your instructor has confirmed they are available on the new date.
Step 4
Have a question or need to cancel?
Please contact us at info@lidt.co.uk before taking any action. Please note: the administration fee is non-refundable. Any DVSA fee refund is subject to confirmation from DVSA.
