  • Driving test vehicle hire
  • DVSA fees for theory tests and non-car practical tests booked by LIDT on your behalf

Course fees do not include any additional lessons, retests, or optional services unless expressly confirmed in writing. No guarantee of passing any theory or practical test is provided.

4 Booking & Payment

A non-refundable deposit must be paid to LIDT at the time of booking. Once an ADI has been allocated, the remaining balance must be paid directly to the instructor within 7 days of allocation or no later than 14 days before the scheduled course or test date, whichever occurs first.

Failure to make payment within the required timeframe may result in:

  • Suspension of the course
  • Withdrawal of instructor allocation
  • Forfeiture of the deposit

Deposits are refundable only where LIDT is unable to allocate a suitable instructor within a reasonable timeframe. All refunds will be issued to the original payment method and may take up to 10 working days to appear. Unused lesson hours are non-refundable, non-transferable, and cannot be carried forward unless agreed otherwise in writing.

5 Driving Lessons

  • You must hold a valid UK provisional driving licence and present it to your instructor at the start of your first lesson. Failure to produce a valid licence may result in cancellation of the lesson without refund.
  • Lesson schedules are agreed directly between you and your allocated instructor.
  • Lessons cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice may be charged in full at the instructor's discretion.
  • If you arrive late for a lesson, the lesson may still end at the originally agreed time.
  • You must inform LIDT and your instructor of any medical, physical, or mental health condition that may affect your ability to drive safely or legally.
  • If you are suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs, or medication which may impair your ability to drive safely, the instructor may terminate the lesson or refuse use of the vehicle for a driving test without refund.
  • You are responsible for any traffic offences committed during lessons or driving tests, including parking, bus lane, congestion charge, toll, bridge, or road-user charges.
  • Where damage is caused to an instructor's vehicle through negligence or unlawful conduct, you may be liable for repair costs up to a maximum contribution of £500.

6 Car Practical Test Compliance Updated 12 May 2026

From 12 May 2026, only the learner driver may book, change, cancel, or swap their own car practical driving test. LIDT does not and cannot perform these actions on behalf of candidates in relation to car practical driving tests.

LIDT may provide the following support services in connection with car practical driving tests:

Swap Matching

LIDT may introduce candidates seeking to exchange driving test appointments. Any swap must be completed directly by the candidates with DVSA in accordance with applicable DVSA procedures and eligibility requirements.

In Person Assisted Booking

LIDT may provide in person guidance to candidates attending an LIDT office location. All booking actions must be completed personally by the candidate using the official GOV.UK system. This service is available only to candidates actively training with an LIDT-appointed instructor.

Slot Notifications

LIDT may notify candidates of potential test opportunities or appointment availability through the platform. Any action taken in response to those notifications must be completed independently by the candidate.

By using LIDT support services, you acknowledge and accept that all booking actions relating to car practical driving tests must be completed personally by you. LIDT does not control DVSA test availability, examiner allocation, release schedules, cancellations, or operational decisions.

7 Practical & Theory Tests

  • For car practical driving tests, LIDT does not book, change, cancel, or swap appointments on behalf of candidates. LIDT may provide swap matching and in person assisted booking support as described in these Terms and Conditions.
  • For non-car tests — including theory tests, motorcycle tests, lorry tests, bus tests, ADI tests, and trainer tests — LIDT may attempt to secure appointments matching your preferred locations and dates.
  • All test availability remains subject to DVSA availability and operational limitations.
  • Your instructor may refuse use of their vehicle for a driving test where they reasonably believe you are not ready or safe to sit the test.
  • You must attend all tests with the required documentation, including your valid driving licence.
  • Where a practical driving test is unsuccessful, any additional lessons, retests, instructor hire, or related services will be charged separately.
  • Where no LIDT instructor is available for an existing practical test appointment, you may request Emergency Instructor Matching.

8 Swap Matching

By registering for Swap Matching services, you agree that:

  • The Platform Fee becomes payable upon registration
  • The Platform Fee is non-refundable once paid
  • Any proposed swap remains subject to DVSA approval and eligibility requirements
  • Both candidates must personally complete the swap directly with DVSA
  • Both candidates must have sufficient remaining DVSA booking changes available
  • Swap requests must comply with all DVSA deadlines and eligibility criteria in force at the relevant time
  • Only tests within the same applicable DVSA fee category may be exchanged
  • Any completed swap will count towards the candidate's permitted DVSA booking changes

If a proposed swap fails due to DVSA refusal or candidate verification failure, the Platform Fee will be refunded to both candidates. Where one candidate withdraws after payment but before completion of the DVSA process, that candidate forfeits their Platform Fee. The remaining candidate will receive a full refund. Entry into the Swap Matching service does not guarantee that a compatible candidate will be identified.

9 In Person Assisted Booking

  • In Person Assisted Booking is available exclusively to candidates actively training with an LIDT-appointed instructor.
  • Instructor confirmation of readiness may be required before an appointment is arranged.
  • Candidates must attend the relevant LIDT office in person. This service is not available remotely.
  • All booking actions must be completed personally by the candidate using the official GOV.UK service.
  • LIDT provides guidance and administrative assistance only.

LIDT accepts no responsibility for:

  • DVSA system outages
  • Appointment unavailability
  • Booking failures
  • Technical interruptions
  • Candidate input errors

Failure to attend a scheduled assisted booking appointment may result in forfeiture of associated fees.

10 Emergency Instructor & Test Car Matching

  • Emergency Instructor Matching is available to candidates holding an existing confirmed practical driving test appointment where their original instructor or vehicle becomes unavailable.
  • LIDT cannot guarantee instructor or vehicle availability for any particular date, location, or test centre.
  • Fees for this service are separate from standard course fees and will be quoted at the time of registration.
  • A pre-test warm-up lesson may be available at additional cost.
  • Where no suitable instructor is identified, no matching fee will be charged.
  • Instructor availability may change at short notice due to illness, vehicle issues, operational requirements, or circumstances beyond reasonable control.

11 Cancellations & Refunds

  • Driving lessons cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice may be charged in full.
  • Missed lessons and non-attendance are non-refundable.
  • If a car practical driving test appointment requires cancellation, this must be completed personally by the candidate using GOV.UK or directly with DVSA. LIDT cannot cancel car practical driving tests on behalf of candidates.
  • Cancellation of LIDT services — including lessons, intensive courses, Swap Matching, and In Person Assisted Booking — requires not less than 20 full working days' written notice sent to info@lidt.co.uk.

Where insufficient notice is provided:

  • Fees may be non-refundable
  • DVSA fees may be lost
  • Instructor fees may remain payable

Where a course is placed on hold, LIDT reserves the right to apply revised pricing upon reinstatement. Courses inactive for extended periods may expire and become subject to reinstatement fees.

12 Instructor Conduct & LIDT's Role

All instructors introduced through LIDT are self-employed independent contractors. By booking through LIDT, you enter into a separate agreement directly with the allocated instructor for tuition services. LIDT does not employ instructors and accepts no responsibility for:

  • Instructor conduct
  • Vehicle defects or breakdowns
  • Accidents
  • Driving offences
  • Lesson disputes
  • Instructor availability

  • Swap Matching
  • In Person Assisted Booking
  • Slot Notifications
  • Instructor coordination
