Terms and conditions for learners

By paying for driving lessons on the LIDT APP, you are deemed to have accepted these terms and conditions and to be bound by them. These terms and conditions of service together with any terms and policies referred to in them (Our Terms) constitute a legally binding agreement between you and LIDT Limited (referred to as “us”, “we”, “our” and “LIDT” as contextually required).

These terms and conditions cover users of the free LIDT Learner app – “Free App Users” – as well as those users who have additionally purchased driving lessons or other services from LIDT directly – “Full Service Users” and Approved Driving Instructors ADI.

The first section of the terms entitled “Terms for All Users” are applicable to both Free App Users and Full-Service Users, while the section entitled “Terms for Full Service Users” includes additional terms relevant to Full Service Users.

LIDT.CO.UK and any LIDT branded apps or sites (licensed or otherwise) are operated LIDT Limited (referred to as “us”, “we”, “our” and “LIDT” as contextually required). The terms and conditions outlined apply to the use of our website or app products (“services”).

By using any of our services you agree to comply with our terms and conditions. If you’re not happy to accept these terms or do not wish to be bound by them, you are not permitted to use any product or service provided by or branded as LIDT.

You acknowledge that all intellectual property rights in LIDT (including but not limited to text, logos, design, layout, multimedia content, photos and graphics) and the LIDT Services, anywhere in the world, belong to us (or our licensors), that rights in LIDT are licensed (not sold) to you, and that you have no rights in, or to, LIDT other than the right to use it in accordance with these Terms.

Who are we?

We are a group of Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) Approved Driving Instructors (ADI) committed to reinventing learner driving and insurance by using tech and data with a fresh attitude, to empower both learners and instructors. LIDT is a platform to help driving instructors and learner drivers get connected, manage their lessons, and find money-saving offers on products such as insurance.

LIDT.CO.UK and LIDT branded products are provided by London Intensive Limited, company number 11165418, 355 Commercial Road London E1 2PS. Email info@lidt.co.uk for more details about LIDT. Please read the below terms and conditions (the “Terms”) carefully as they (together with the documents referred to) apply to both Free App Users and Full Learner App Users, your role as such, your use of LIDT and the services made available via LIDT.

Terms for All Users

You agree to use any of the LIDT branded apps for educational and/or consumer purposes only.

We are committed to making sure that LIDT, our products and services are secure and free from bugs or viruses, but we make no guarantee that this will be case.

You are responsible for ensuring that your information technology, computer, its programmes and platform are secure in order to access LIDT and our services. You should use your own virus protection software.

We assume no responsibility and shall not be liable for any loss or damage caused by a virus, or other technologically harmful material that may infect your computer or other equipment or other property on account of your access to, use of, or browsing of LIDT or any website linked to it.

Your personal data

When you sign-up to LIDT and other products you will need provide:

Your name and address
A valid email address
A valid mobile number
Picture of provisional driving licence

For Approved Driving Instructors (ADI)

Should you wish to work with LIDT as an independent ADI, you will be required to provide us with more information:

Your name and address
Your availability
Valid payment details
Picture of ADI Badge
Full UK Driving licence picture
Area coverage
Pricing information
Standards check test grade
Car registration number
Car make/model and number of doors
Teaching transmission (manual/auto/both)
Fuel Type
Banking details
Marital Status

If you fail to provide us the above information, we reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to our platform and services. You are responsible for the confidentiality of your login details and any activities that occur on your account.

All of your information is kept secure and we comply with the relevant Data Protection laws applicable to our jurisdiction.

Intensive Driving Courses/Driving lessons

The Course fees are as listed on the LIDT App:

LIDT administration fee, which covers finding a Driving Instructor for you and booking the Lessons and the practical/theory driving tests where appropriate (“Administration Fee”);

The tuition fee for the Lessons from the Driving Instructor (“Tuition Fee”);

The practical driving test booking fee
Theory test booking fee
Theory test pro app fee
Driving test car rental charge
Pass plus course fee
Fast track test booking administration fee

Making a purchase with LIDT:

You will need to provide and submit your personal details as well as valid payment details via LIDT app.

You must be the cardholder, or have express permission from the cardholder to use their details.

You must provide current, complete and accurate information and ensure that any information is updated during your use of the LIDT app.

Driving Lesson credits

All of the lesson credits (hours) you purchase with LIDT are valid for a period of 6 months from the date of purchase. Once credits become invalid, they cannot be used to redeem for lessons or be refunded.

It is your responsibility to review your account and ensure your lessons are correct (date and length of time). Any disputes regarding a lesson must be shared with us in writing no later than 1 month from the date the lesson occurred.

Should we not hear from you for a period of 6 months (e.g. if you have lost interest in completing the course) then any payment made to LIDT will be forfeited.

Driving lesson credits when purchased are valid for the location and transmission originally purchased at. LIDT reserves the right to charge the difference in price if a learner wishes to change either of these details. When calculating the price difference between automatic and manual, LIDT will calculate this based on pre-discounted prices.

A top up purchase is defined as any purchase of lesson hours made after your initial purchase. You can top-up using the app or in the dashboard anywhere from 1 to 45 hours each time. Top-up rates will, unless otherwise stated match the rates specified on LIDT.CO.UK for new customers. These rates are subject to change at any point without prior notice.

Driving Tests and lessons

Cancelling/rescheduling notice of 7 working days’ notice must be given if you decide to postpone/cancel your intensive driving course. Failure to provide LIDT with the correct cancellation notice will result in course fee being forfeited.

You may cancel or re-arrange a lesson without penalty if you confirm with your instructor 48 hours before your lesson begins.

If you cancel or attempt to re-arrange the lesson within 48-hours of your lesson starting, you will be charged in full for the lesson at your instructor’s discretion.

Any arrangements for the driving lessons, including the start time and start location, shall be agreed between you and the Driving Instructor directly.

It is your responsibility to be on time for your Lessons. As the Driving Instructor may have other lessons to deliver, the Lessons will not be extended to compensate for you arriving late.

If you do not turn up for a Lesson the Driving Instructor will be entitled to keep the full tuition fee of the missed Lesson. You must confirm with your instructor that your lesson has been cancelled or re-arranged and LIDT itself will not be responsible for communicating any cancellations to your instructor.

The Driving Instructor may refuse to proceed with a driving lesson/test if you use abusive language or threatening behaviour or if you fail to act on any reasonable request made by the Driving Instructor or if the Driving Instructor reasonably believes that you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs at any time during the lesson.

As the practical driving test and theory test require you to apply your own skill and knowledge, LIDT does not and cannot guarantee that you will pass your practical driving test or theory test.

Instructors may also ask to assess learners driving ability before agreeing to take them to their driving test. If instructor feels that you are not ready due to safety reasons, then you will not be allowed to take your driving test. LIDT accepts no responsibility for the loss of any test day fee if you are deemed not ready for the test by your instructor.

Test day hire includes use of your instructor’s car for the duration of your driving test. It does not include the DVSA test booking fee.

LIDT in app Test booking

Fast track administration fee is non-refundable, non-transferable once theory/practical driving tests has been booked.

You may change or cancel your theory/practical test, by giving LIDT 7 full working days’ notice before the date of each such arranged test. If you want to rearrange a test (which has been booked by LIDT in accordance with your initial requirements) a further fast track administration fee will be charged.

In the event you are not able to attend a theory/practical test and 7 working days’ cancellation notice is not given to LIDT, then your payment for the DVSA booking fee and administration fee will be forfeited and no refund will be issued.

We do not accept any liability for the loss of test booking fee/administration fee if a theory/practical test is cancelled by the DVSA examiner because you arrive at the test centre late or without a valid provisional driving licence or cannot read a number plate from the correct distance. In these cases, you will need to pay the full DVSA theory/practical test booking fee plus administration fee again in order to book another test.

LIDT will not be responsible for tests rescheduled or cancelled by the DVSA. If the DVSA takes such action, you and LIDT will be notified by the DVSA. If you require LIDT to fast-track the new test date set by the DVSA then fast track administration fee will apply again.

Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA)

You accept that our appointment as agent authorises LIDT to act as your full legal/ exclusive representative as far as the DVSA and DVLA are concerned.

By using the LIDT app, you give LIDT exclusive authority to book, cancel, swap, reschedule, pay for theory and practical test appointments on your behalf.

If you are to fail the theory/practical test then the LIDT app will automatically search and book another fast track test appointments for you. You will be notified when a booking has been made. Payment will be due only if you agree to attend the test appointment.

To opt out of this fast track test booking service, you MUST DELETE the LIDT app. By doing so, your personal data will be deleted from our automated booking system and no theory/practical test will be booked using your licence number.

Any unpaid fees for theory/practical test appointments booked through the LIDT app will be cancelled without further notice.

Data and information provided by us

Our tech allows driving instructors to provide you with feedback and log your progress using the LIDT Instructor app. Lesson data

In order to provide you with a lesson route we make use of location data sent from the LIDT Apps. You hereby consent to our transmission, collection, maintenance, processing and use of your location data and queries to provide and improve our location­-based and road traffic­-based products and services.

You also agree that we may collect and use technical information about your mobile device, system and related software, hardware and peripherals, gathered from time to time, to facilitate the provision of software updates, product support and improvements. Lesson reports

You accept that we offer no guarantee to lesson reports being provided, as lesson reports are subject to your instructor using the LIDT Instructor app and completing the lesson reports within the app.

Availability of LIDT products

We work hard to make sure that LIDT is available all of the time, but we make no guarantee or commitment to the service being available all of the time.

We reserve the right, where we believe necessary, to undertake all reasonable action to protect ourselves against fraud, suspicious or invalid redemptions, including but not limited to seeking further verification as to the identity of a customer.

Friend referral - Eligibility

By using this promotion and by providing us with any information in connection with this promotion, you are deemed to have accepted these terms and conditions and to be bound by them.

In order to take part in the LIDT friend referral program, simply share your unique link with a friend or relative, who you think would benefit from learning to drive with LIDT. For every referral that results in a valid purchase (minimum purchase requirement applies), you will receive a cash credit.

LIDT reserves the right to amend the value of the cash credit and the operation of the friend referral scheme at any time without providing notice. Our Friend referral program is valid from March 2020 and the promotion will continue until amended or revoked by us.

All products and services are subject to availability and there is no cash alternative should a service not be available in your local area. You must have the permission of the referee before you submit any data to us. We will use their data to make contact about this referral scheme and to introduce LIDT products and services. We accept no responsibility or liability for any referrals that are lost or missed.

You agree not to share your unique referral code via a Search Engine (Google/Bing/Yahoo and alike) or with any third party promotions website.

Sharing via social media pages including Facebook or Twitter is permitted.

We reserve the right to take such reasonable actions to protect ourselves against any fraudulent or invalid referrals, including, but not limited to requiring further information for a referrer or referee to provide more information to verify their identification.

Terms on termination

We reserve the right to suspend, restrict or terminate your access to LIDT and our services at any time without notice, if:

You have breached our terms and conditions.
You have committed an unlawful act towards us or a driving instructor.
We suspect that you have fraudulently obtained or attempted to obtain services using LIDT, apps or any of our licenced services. Should we suspect such inappropriate and/or illegal use of our services, we reserve the right to report and/or bring legal action.
You are under no obligation to use LIDT or our services and may simply stop using them at any time.

Terms for Full Service Users

This section applies to learner drivers who have paid or are intending to pay LIDT directly for our services, in our capacity as intermediary between learner and driving instructor.

As part of LIDT, we offer a platform to introduce learner drivers and driving instructors, and to facilitate the payment of driving lessons to Instructors. Driving lessons can be purchased via LIDT.CO.UK, via the LIDT Learner App and the LIDT Theory App.

You agree to use LIDT.CO.UK and the LIDT branded apps in order to search lesson packages, make a purchase and be matched with a driving instructor. We reserved the right to control and restrict access to LIDT.CO.UK at any point, without any prior notice.

We work hard to ensure that LIDT.CO.UK is available all of the time, but we do not accept any liability, for any reason that our website or service is unavailable at any time or for any period.

You agree that you will use our service for lawful purposes only.

Driving lessons

What we offer:

A platform for Learners to search and buy driving lesson packages.
To match learners with an Approved Driving Instructor.
To book fast track theory test appointments.
To book fast track practical test appointments.
To buy full access to theory test pro app.

To facilitate payment between the Learner and Driving Instructors - payments are secure and processed through Stripe. We are not a driving school and we do not train nor employ any driving instructors.

Complimentary lesson credits

We may from time to time issue complimentary lesson credits on a customer service basis. Any such credits will be issued at our discretion and can be withdrawn at any point.

These credits will be applied directly to your profile to use towards your driving lessons. If any refund is processed from your account, you will not be entitled to any credit amount in cash for any complimentary credits issued.

Your purchase and paperwork… well it’s all online!

All purchases with LIDT are done so online. We do not accept cash!

On successfully purchasing with LIDT you will receive an email confirmation - we do not offer or provide any printed versions.

Refunds after your first driving lesson

We understand that on occasion things don’t quite work out. We are able to offer every learner a free rematch, so that you can continue your driving lessons with a new instructor.

Should you not wish to continue with another driving instructor sourced via the LIDT platform, you can request a refund for the unused credits on your account providing you contact us within 14 days of the date of your first lesson occurring. LIDT will refund you for any unused hours at the hourly rate paid on your first purchase after the application of any discount or promotional codes. We reserve the right to seek confirmation from your driving instructor before proceeding with any refund.

You can request a refund of any unused hours from a top-up package providing you contact us within 14 days of purchasing the top up. If you cancel your first lesson within 48 hours of the scheduled start time (defined as a late cancellation) the 14 day period starts on the date the lesson was scheduled to occur.

Any hours already used to take lessons with a LIDT instructor are strictly non-refundable.

Refunds following a test pass

We will refund any unused hours on your account if you pass before you have used up your full allocation of credits.

All you need to do is send us a scanned copy of your practical driving test pass certificate within 14 days of passing your test. Refunds will typically be processed within 24 hours. All retail refunds take up to a maximum of ten working days to reflect on your bank statement. Please send a scanned PDF copy or a high quality photograph of your practical driving test pass certificate to info@lidt.co.uk.

No refunds will be issued for lesson credits which have expired.

To be eligible for the unused hours refund you must have booked your driving test through LIDT. Once the practical driving test certificate has been sent to us, we will then cross reference the test with the test booking on the app that will have been input by your instructor. We will not be able to refund any unused hours on the account if your test has not been input by the driving instructor. If you believe your test has not been booked in correctly into the app, please contact our Customer Happiness team.

In the event that you have paid the instructor directly for the test day, we will not be able to refund the unused hours on the account.

Proactive refunds

There are some occasions where we are unable to help learners get on the road with a driving instructor. On the rare occasion that this occurs, we reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to proactively refund any unused lesson hours, within 14 days of your original purchase. We will of course contact you via email to confirm that this is happening. Our normal refund timescales will apply as described below.

We also reserve the right to refund any learner found to be in breach of our Terms and Conditions or who is found to be acting in a hostile or discriminatory manner.

Processing a refund

Refunds will be processed within 24 hours of your request. This allows us to conduct an appropriate check with your instructor before the refund is processed. All retail refunds take up to a maximum of ten working days to reflect on your bank statement.

We can and will only refund the amount due to the payment method used to make the original transaction. Please note that if your card has expired, the funds will return to your bank account associated with your original debit or credit card.

Driving Instructors

We do not employ any Driving Instructors and, unless otherwise specified in these terms of use, we are not responsible for (and make no representations, warranties or guarantees as to) the behaviour, acts or omissions of any Driving Instructors you engage through LIDT or the quality of the services they provide. As we have no control over the diaries or scheduling of our instructors, LIDT makes no guarantee that any instructor will be available on any specific date.

How we get paid

Instructors who belong to big schools pay franchise fees so the school are obliged to send them a minimum number of pupils regardless of whether they are recommended by learners!

LIDT instructors pay no franchise fees so we are not obliged to send them any minimum number of learners. Instead, LIDT receive a fixed percentage commission from Driving Instructors for each lesson sale.

Gift cards and vouchers

Our gift cards and vouchers are provided by LIDT Limited via LIDT.CO.UK only. On purchasing a gift card you agree to accept the terms and conditions outlined on this page in addition to the following:

The value of a gift card/voucher can only be redeemed against the cost of a lesson package with LIDT.CO.UK - there is no cash alternative. Our pricing is subject to change at any point, without prior notice.

The gift card/voucher recipient must hold a valid UK Provisional Licence in order to take driving lessons through the LIDT platform.

You may be required to make a top-up payment at the time of redeeming the gift card/voucher. This must be paid at the time of redemption.

Any subsequent top-up payment that is required will need to be purchased in accordance with the prices on LIDT.CO.UK, which are subject to change without prior notice.

We accept no liability or responsibility to honour a price previously advertised on LIDT.CO.UK or any of our products.

Gift cards/vouchers can only be redeemed by one person and are non-transferable once redeemed.

The value of a gift card/voucher is valid for a 12-month period from the valid date of purchase. After this time, any available credit will become void.

LIDT and our agents reserve the right to decline the attempt to redeem a gift card, which we believe to be false, replicated, or being used to deceive or commit fraud.

Should we believe an account to be fraudulent we reserve the right to report the account holder to the relevant legal authority. We reserve the right to close any account and seek payment from an alternative method if we suspect or are informed of a gift card being redeemed or obtained to commit fraud.

Delivery of digital Gift Voucher codes

Gift Voucher codes will be delivered to the purchaser of LIDT Gift Voucher codes via the email address given when the purchase was made on LIDT.CO.UK

LIDT accepts no liability for technical issues outside of its control in relation to the sending of Gift Voucher codes by email. It is the Gift Voucher code purchaser's responsibility to ensure that they have entered a valid and working email address to LIDT.

If the email containing details of the Gift Voucher code is undelivered, LIDT will endeavour to contact any Gift Voucher code purchaser through alternative means if those have been provided. However, it may take up to 28 working days.

Gift card refunds

Our usual refund policy applies to all purchases made with LIDT, including gift cards, unless otherwise stated. You agree to these terms when you purchase with us.

Promotions and discount codes

There are occasions that we run and offer promotions, including but not limited to personalised discount codes. All of our promotions and discount codes are subject to our standard Terms and Conditions, in addition to the terms below:

All discounts or codes are applicable to first time purchases with LIDT only, unless otherwise specifically stated.
All discounts and codes must be applied before the completion of the sign up process, and cannot be applied retroactively.
New customers are permitted to use only one discount per purchase. Subsequent purchases will not be eligible for any discounts, unless otherwise specifically stated.

We reserve the right to withdraw our services if we believe a promotional code has been inappropriately or illegally acquired and/or used.

On occasions where multiple accounts are created for the purpose of redeeming and/or using the same promotion for the same customer, we will only honour the discount on the first purchase and on one account. All subsequent purchases and/or accounts will require a top-up purchase. Failing that, our services will be withdrawn and the balance refunded.

Our promotions and discounts run for limited periods of time, specified on the adverts, coupons or leaflets.

We do not offer any guarantee or intention to honour any promotional offer or discount after the expiry date.

We only provide promotions via LIDT.CO.UK and our apps/products to the email address you registered with or through selected 3rd party websites. We do not accept any responsibility or liability for any promotions offered by third party websites and reserve the right to not honour any promotion advertised on such sites if they are acting without the express permission of LIDT Limited.

A refund or cancellation where a promotional code has been used will invalidate the use of the code by that customer and/or account and they will not be eligible for any first time customer promotion in the future.

We reserve the right, where we believe necessary, to undertake all reasonable action to protect ourselves against fraud and suspicious or invalid redemptions, including but not limited to seeking further verification as to the identity of a customer.

Your rights

Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights. Please speak to your local Citizens’ Advice bureau for more information.

Complaints procedure

We take all customer complaints received seriously. Should you wish to make a complaint, please email us at info@lidt.co.uk. We will endeavour to respond to and investigate all complaints within a reasonable timeframe.
